In her ninth decade, Kusama has continued to work as an artist. That same year, the Yayoi Kusama Museum was inaugurated in Tokyo. When she was ten years old, she began to experience vivid hallucinations which she has described as "flashes of light, auras, or dense fields of dots". In , Kusama starred in the film Tokyo Decadence , written and directed by Ryu Murakami , and in , she collaborated with British musician Peter Gabriel on an installation in Yokohama. I ran desperately up the stairs. The multi-part floating work Guidepost to the New Space , a series of rounded "humps" in fire-engine red with white polka dots, was displayed in Pandanus Lake.
